Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre believes it is natural for Norway to have ambitions to host the Olympics again.
Storey spoke to NTB during a visit to the Summer Olympics in Paris at the weekend. The prime minister was responding to a question about Norway’s possible bid for the Olympics after the country’s director general of sports, Tore Ovrebo, expressed the hope that Norway would host the Games “as soon as possible”.
– First of all, I think it’s a good message from the sporting director. It would be strange if Norway didn’t have such ambitions. “Then I have to be careful about drawing more conclusions than I think we should have a conversation about this,” said Stoll.
He noted that there should be agreement on several aspects of what a possible Norwegian Olympic bid should look like.
– If Norway is going to do it, then it has to be part of something we all agree on, something that is a priority, and something we can do in our own way. In our government we have said that Norway should be able to organise major sporting events because we care about major sporting events. “So I don’t want to close this door, but there is still a long way to go before we open it,” said Stoll.
The 2038 Winter Olympics could be the first Olympics to be hosted by Norway.
– Several Olympics have already been awarded for 2030 and 2034, which means the first opportunity is 2038.
