A passenger ferry service connecting Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu and the suburb of Kanksanthulai (KKS) in Jaffna district of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province will be launched on August 16, according to Indian media reports.
Ferry operator IndSri Ferry Services Private Limited announced that bookings for the service will begin at midnight today.
It was originally planned to be relaunched in May, but due to delays, it was ultimately cancelled.
The route was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself on October 14 last year by the vessel ‘Cheriyapani’ after being suspended for nearly 40 years. The route is operated by Indian shipping company KPVS Private Limited. The route was suspended for about a week due to bad weather during the northeast monsoon.
