P-au-P, August 8, 2024 (AlterPresse) – The Conference of Haitian Pastors (Copah) claims to be in discussions with other representative organizations of the Protestant community to reach a consensus on the designation of ae representatives, the online agency AlterPresse has learned, with the information sent in a note dated August 8, 2024 to the Provisional Electoral Council (Cep).
She reiterated that discussions with other Protestant organizations would continue in order to reach consensus in this area, while calling for unity and cooperation to guarantee harmonious and legitimate representation in the European Parliament.
Furthermore, Copah said it took note of the letter dated August 6, 2024 from the Presidential Transition Council (Cpt) to the Federation of Protestant Churches of Haiti (Fph).
In the letter, the Christian Council asks the Fph to join Copah, the National Spiritual Council of the Church of Haiti (Conaspeh), the Federation of Haitian Pastors (Fepah), and to restore the current process of appointing representatives of the Reformed cult in Cep, which is being formed.
According to Copah, “the purpose of this approach is to prevent each group or organization from succumbing to the temptation to appoint its own representatives”, as the Fph did, “unilaterally and without prior consensus”.
She praised the Christian Communists for their “wise decision in the face of the intransigence and arrogance of the Liberal Democrats, who believed they had the right to engage with the Protestant sector alone, according to their own whims, hidden agendas and sole interests”.
On Monday, August 5, 2024, CPT President Edgard Leblanc Fils and Presidential Counselor Frinel Joseph met at the Reception Villa with the emissaries of the Religious Reform Department, composed of Conaspeh, Fepah and Copah.
The Christians thought it proper to bring them together in order to arrive at a consensus which would allow the selection of a single representative of the Reformed religion.
As part of the CEP training process, these departments have until Thursday, August 8, 2024, to transmit the names of their representatives to Cpt.
The European Parliament should organize the next elections before 2025 to renew its political staff.
Legally elected officials should take office on February 7, 2026.
Haiti was supposed to organize elections to renew its political staff, but they have not taken place in several years.
The country is facing a serious security crisis and On Wednesday, July 7, 2021, Jovenel Moïse was assassinated.
Since 2023, armed gangs have occupied more than 80% of the metropolitan area of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and have forced more than 600,000 people to migrate within Haiti. (emb rc 2024-04-08 11:30)
