While two thirds of the cases opened by the Raonador del Ciudadà last year were related to housing issues, 29 of them concerned what the report calls the “social sector”. This heading includes those related to CASS and, more fundamentally, pensions (19), social procedures and children and adolescents (3).
As far as the files submitted to CASS are concerned, citizens who file complaints with the reasoner do so because of disability, old age, widowhood or orphan pension issues, either due to insufficient reimbursement of medical expenses or insufficient coverage of intervention or medical discharge.
Regarding cases opened as a result of complaints about the handling of social benefits, the Agency dealt with cases related to lack of financial resources, claims for unpaid housing benefit debts from the government, refusal to issue Magna Cards, involuntary unemployment benefits, family allowances for dependent children and general social assistance. In addition, there were cases of lack of housing due to evictions, disagreements in the assessments carried out by Conava, and the cancellation of card assistance for the purchase of food by the Ministry of Social Affairs. In addition, one person who asked for information about the equality department and another who disagreed with the performance of a social worker were also questioned.
Regarding the files opened by the reasoner directly involving children and adolescents, one family was processed for refusing to transfer schools, another for disagreeing with the decision of the educational center. Finally, one family disagreed with the initiation of a mental health notification and social action protocol because of the parents’ lack of skills, possible authoritarian parenting style, and the fact that they had made changes to the child’s medication without considering the guidelines.
