Algerian Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has decided to file a complaint against online harassment after being subjected to a hate campaign.
The 25-year-old athlete has been the target of an online harassment campaign related to her gender identity since her victory over Italian Angela Carini, and she doesn’t intend to stop there.
She has “Decided to lead a new struggle: a struggle for justice, dignity and honour”, His lawyer, Maître Nabil Boudi, a lawyer at the Paris Bar, announced.
In a press release released yesterday, he said: “Ms Khalif contacted the company, which yesterday filed a complaint of serious online harassment with the Combating Online Hate Unit of the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office. The criminal investigation will determine who initiated this misogynistic, racist and sexist campaign, but the focus must also be on those who fueled this digital lynching. The unfair harassment suffered by the boxing champion will remain the biggest stain on these Olympic Games.”
