Three candidate files for the October 6 presidential election, namely Kais Saïed, Zouhair Maghzaoui and Ayachi Zammel, were initially retained by the Independent High Electoral Authority (ISIE). The announcement was made by ISIE President Farouk Bouasker at a press conference in Tunis late Saturday afternoon. He added that 14 applications were rejected for not providing the required amount of sponsorship, failing to deposit the required security deposit of DKK 10,000, or for the lack of various other documents. Notification of the ISIE’s decision will be sent to each candidate and, for those not selected, the decision will be accompanied by the reasons for the rejection and give the right to appeal. The final list of candidates will be published by September 4, 2024.
Zouhair Maghzoui said Bouasque had submitted 11 valid applications for parliamentary sponsorship.
The dossier submitted by Kais Said contains 248,467 valid popular sponsorships in 135 constituencies, each with at least 500 voters, in addition to 294 parliamentary sponsorships from members of both houses of parliament and elected chairpersons of local authorities.
As for Ayachi Zammel, he presented 10,457 valid popular endorsements, spread across 10 constituencies, each with at least 500 voters.
