The Jamaica Olympic Association president, Christopher Samuda, has refuted claims that the Jamaica Olympic Association will not award shot putter Danielle Thomas-Dodd a spot at the next Olympics if she does not retract her comments about her lack of support for the field event.

Samuda refuted the claim in an interview after a ceremony where three former Jamaican athletes received medals that were upgraded due to disqualifications from the last Olympics.
The ceremony took place in the Parc des Champions in the Trocadero Gardens.
According to a local media report, the association will not award Thomas Dodd a berth in future competitions due to criticism of her poor preparation for the women’s shot put yesterday and her lack of support for track and field athletes.
When the matter was put to him, Samuda rejected the request out of hand.
“Of course not. I don’t have that word in my dictionary,” Samuda told The gleaners.
In addition, he told reporters that she would still receive support from the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship as one of the beneficiaries.
“If that is the issue with Mr Walker’s report, I think you should interview him and allow him to withdraw it. Mr Walker asked me about the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship and whether she would be considered and I said she would be considered as long as she met the criteria,” Samuda said.
“The word revenge does not exist in my and JOA’s dictionary.”
Thomas-Dodd expressed frustration after withdrawing from the women’s shot put qualifying event, citing questions about the qualifications of coaches and a lack of support for the field event.
“We are the most neglected event in Jamaica. They always forget that it’s not just athletics, it’s athletics. You need to put in more. Both in terms of time and energy, making sure all the athletes are comfortable,” Thomas-Dodd said yesterday.
Jamaica won six medals at the Paris Olympics, five of which came in field events.
