Libreville, Saturday, August 10, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – “Around the flag, let us express our national pride”. This is the theme chosen this year to celebrate Flag Day, August 9, 2024. The authorities have the opportunity to invite the Gabonese people to love their homeland and respect republican institutions.
Flag Day was established in 2009 by former Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba as a celebration for the Gabonese people around the national flag to reaffirm their attachment to national values and identification with republican symbols.
On the occasion of the 15th edition of the fair, the head of state presided over a grand ceremony on Friday in the main courtyard of the Restoration Palace in Libreville in the presence of many dignitaries.
Under the watchful eyes of General Blaise Clotaire Origi Nguema, senior officers, generals, members of the CTRI, members of the Government and administrative, civil and military authorities took turns to perform the pledge of allegiance before the Tricolore, venerating this huge symbol of the Republic in a civic and reverent gesture, in a sign of respect and attachment to patriotic values.
The ceremony made it possible to highlight patriotism and restore republican values around this highly symbolic national emblem, all in harmony.
Green, yellow and blue are also celebrated in Libreville and in all institutions in the country. Remember, green is a symbol of forests, nature and Gabon’s rich biodiversity. Yellow represents the equator and the sun that passes through Gabon.
The blue symbolizes the sea that washes over Gabon’s coast, the many rivers that crisscross its shores, the sky, and the peaceful image that Gabon embodies.
Centering on the symbol of the national flag, we call on everyone to work together towards a future of peace, patriotism and common prosperity.
