There was heavy traffic on Highway 1 from Hílishedi to the capital region this afternoon. A passerby said it was clear that many people were on their way home after travelling today and there were a lot of cars passing through Vífilsfell.
Another person said there was a long line of cars from Rauðavatni to the small cafe.
“I was driving at 5km on Sandskeðin and was approaching Lögberg, where there was a line all the way to Kaffistofa,” said one driver, speaking to a news agency on the way into town.
“I’m about 25 minutes from the coffee shop and I haven’t reached the Lögberg slope yet.” Traffic on the road had been moving slowly for at least two hours, according to posts on social media.
According to the Roads Authority, traffic is heavy on Suðurlandsveg Road, which leads from Little Cafe to Reykjavík. “Traffic continues to be slow and we ask road users to remain patient.” There is no access to Hafnarfjörður from Bláfjallaveðin.
