The electrification of the Mercedes-AMG range continues and is further enriched by another plug-in hybrid series. This is the GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic+GLE, which consists of a classic SUV and a Coupé version, which undoubtedly best fits the badge prominently displayed on the body. Both are powered by a powerful system with an integrated six-cylinder turbo engine, providing high performance and a zero-emission range of nearly 90 kilometers.

The powertrain of the GLE 53 Hybrid is similar to that of the E-Class Sedan and Touring at the hands of AMG. The system still integrates a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with 449 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, but in this case it is combined with an electric unit with a less powerful 136 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque. With 544 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, both GLEs reach 100 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds and 250 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. In electric mode, both SUVs can reach a speed of 140 miles per hour and travel up to 90 kilometers without burning gasoline. The electric motor of the GLE 53 is powered by a battery with a net capacity of 25.5 kWh, which can be charged from 10 to 80% in 20 minutes with 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC.
These GLEs differ technically from the Mercedes-Benz Exclusive models due to their reinforced body, larger brakes and specific settings for the adaptive pneumatic suspension, the nine-speed automatic transmission, the four-wheel drive with continuously variable transmission distribution, the steering and electronics for power management. Finally, a complex set of AMG car configurations with numerous custom subprograms flanked by off-road, electric vehicle settings and modes for preserving the battery charge.

The GLE SUV aesthetically conveys the AMG restoration care with some custom touches that blend harmoniously into the body while still being easily recognizable. Unique features include the inevitable Panamericana grille, which directs air to an additional heat exchanger, widened wheel arches, 21-inch wheels that reveal brake calipers with AMG logos, thin aerodynamic contours and specially designed bumper guards with large air intakes at the front.
The AMG GLE is nearly five meters long and, like its less powerful counterpart, has a spacious and well-equipped cockpit. Inside, however, the sporty interior, microfiber or synthetic leather upholstery with contrasting stitching and the performance steering wheel stand out, which is equipped with two less intuitive rotary levers for selecting the car’s configuration. In addition, the Mbux system offers specific functions for the plug-in hybrid system, which can be viewed in the configurable cockpit and infotainment displays.
