Suriname Alcoholic Beverages NV (SAB) recently made an important contribution to the community of Geyersvlijt. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, SAB donated 10 planters to the Geyersvlijt EBGS Municipality to support an innovative vegetable garden project in the area.

The garden project aims to sustainably combat poverty and strengthen social connections within the community, providing residents with the opportunity to grow a variety of crops for their own consumption and sale.

Additionally, the project encourages training in hydroponics, which involves growing vegetables in water instead of using soil. This initiative helps residents have a healthier lifestyle while also helping them become more financially independent.

The plant pots donated by SAB are made from recycled pallets, in line with the company’s vision for sustainability. In addition to the plant pots, SAB also donated tools and potting soil so that residents are adequately equipped to start their gardens right away.

This project is a great example of how companies and communities can work together towards a more sustainable future. By supporting this initiative, SAB is demonstrating that it is not only focused on profits, but is also committed to strengthening communities and promoting healthy and sustainable lifestyles.

Suriname Alcoholic Beverages (SAB) has a history dating back to 1882. The company is known for producing high-quality rum and other alcoholic beverages, including the well-known brands Borgoe, Black Cat, Mariënburg, Daroe, Hanappier Eau de Vie and Voltz vodka. SAB prides itself on its commitment to quality, safety and sustainability, and strives to expand its local and international market share while adhering to high international standards.

With the vegetable garden project in Geyersvlijt, SAB is taking an important step towards a more sustainable future, promoting not only economic benefits but also social and ecological benefits.
