Óscar Ordeig to be agriculture chief in new Iraqi government

Òscar Ordeig, deputy secretary general and first secretary of the PSC of Lleida, will be the new Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food in the Catalan government led by Salvador Illa.

Oldeiger, who succeeds incumbent David Mascort, has been a Socialist MP in the Lleida parliament since 2014 and has been the federal first secretary of the PSC for Lleida, Pyrenees and Alanya since 2016. He has been spokesman for the PSC parliamentary group in the Agriculture, Commerce and Audit Office committees. He has also been in charge of the sports sector and has been part of the alternative Catalan government as head of business, industry, commerce, tourism and digital policy.

Born in Vic in 1978, the politician served as a member of the Seu d’Urgell City Council and spokesman for the Public Security Committee between 2007 and 2021. In 2019, the organization he led won the elections but failed to form a government. However, due to an agreement between pro-independence factions. He resigned from the city council in November 2021 to focus on his work as a councillor. At that time he also moved his residence to the city of Lleida.

According to his official resume, Ordeig holds a doctorate in business administration from the UPC, in addition to a master’s degree in taxation, among other courses.
