FILE – A Somali asylum seeker was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl. Authorities later arrested the suspect, who was identified after another incident in Korneuburg.
VIENNA, Austria (HOL) — A Somali asylum seeker has been arrested in Austria on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old girl, according to local authorities. The attack allegedly took place at a train station, where the girl was assaulted. She later told her mother, who immediately reported the incident to police.
Despite surveillance video capturing the 17-year-old’s whereabouts, police initially had difficulty locating the suspect. However, on Wednesday, the suspect was arrested in Kornoburg on suspicion of stealing a cell phone. Upon further investigation, authorities determined that he fit the description of the rape suspect.
The suspect denied the rape allegation in court and is being held at the Cole Newburg Justice Center while the investigation continues.
