As a serial entrepreneur with a burning curiosity and a passion for solving social problems in new ways, I have been involved in AI-related project development and frontline application solutions for new technologies since OpenAI launched its artificial BroadCast Unitedligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT. In the past two weeks, I have been to Paris, France to participate in an AI seminar, where I can introduce my own projects to people from all over the world, and also learn about the development of AI applications in other places and their impact on local areas, especially the impact on privacy policies.

Everyone should remember that at the beginning of this year, Italy pointed out that OpenAI did not comply with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and announced that ChatGPT would be banned locally.

OpenAI previously announced the company’s measures to protect privacy, including limiting the storage time of data, ensuring that data can only be used for specific purposes of ChatGPT, and strengthening data security. Italy then reopened the ChatGPT service.

After ChatGPT was launched, it has been controversial, but it does not hinder its own advantages. At the beginning of last year, I started to carry out different AI projects, and Prof E, which I introduced in my column earlier, is one of the key projects. Prof E will be transformed into multiple roles to meet the needs of different groups.

For growing teenagers, Prof E will be a mentor and helpful friend. In addition to providing study guidance, he can also be a “24/7” (24/7) close friend who will remember every word you say, pay attention to your growth and needs, and be ready to listen to your troubles at any time. His rich knowledge and experience can provide pertinent and effective advice.

For young people or workers who are interested in starting a business, Prof E is a mentor with rich entrepreneurial experience and knowledge. The problems faced when starting a business are varied and difficult to predict and there is no unified answer, but Prof E can use its huge database to guide entrepreneurs to find a method that suits them.

At the same time, after using the latest version of GPT-4o, Prof E can sense and respond to the user’s emotions, allowing it to also take on emotional counseling work, providing help when the user is anxious or sad, or reminding when they are overly excited and need discipline.

This project has been tested in local universities and primary and secondary schools. In addition to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology where I teach, three other universities are testing different functions of Prof E. The development team hopes that it can change the traditional “study → exam” model to focus on the students’ learning process, helping them discover their interests and future directions while also discovering and solving problems in a timely manner.

Many overseas colleagues have praised Prof E’s “Made in Hong Kong” AI project. The team will also take this opportunity to discuss with AI scholars and investors from all over the world to further improve its possibility of launching in other regions. However, while AI provides services, it will also collect a lot of personal data and privacy. In future development, privacy is definitely the focus of attention from all walks of life. We should also pay more attention to this when using or developing AI-related services.
