To the usual retrogrades, any situation seems favorable for bringing grist to their mill. Even, until the last straw, when it suggests to us exactly the opposite of the conclusions and claims of these themes.

The retrogrades came to a conclusion contrary to the simplest common sense: they came out to say that this case exposed the futility of institutions and laws designed to protect women (and the weakest in general) from violence and oppression. They therefore used the opportunity to celebrate the dismantling of the Ministry of Women and Women’s Affairs. Inadi.., they even criticize the law on quotas for political representation, which has allowed progress towards well-deserved gender equality.
Dictators don’t like this.
Professional and critical journalism practice is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That is why it troubles those who think they are in possession of the truth.
But if there is one thing that illustrates what Fabiola suffered, it is machismo and the abuse of power. In this case, it is an extreme abuse of power, since it is exercised by none other than the president of the country himself.
The upstarts try to explain this reprehensible fact from a political rather than an institutional point of view. They claim that the fact that this happened in a government that created a Ministry of Women’s Affairs and promoted the IVE, and that is led by a president who has long decorated himself with the causes promoted by the feminist movement, negates the importance of promoting the advancement of women’s rights.
But the opposite is true. How many women have been and are still being harassed and abused? Here and around the world. How many women, in the past and today, continue to be victims of men who can decide the course of their careers? Who has more political power than the president? How many people, here and in other countries, have been or continue to be violated by men who have such power and an aura of impunity?
If today a woman dares to denounce the former president who just left the seat in Rivadavia, and if today society immediately sides with her, it is because a deeper cultural change has taken place. This is the only collective achievement in this terrible story. And this is what must be preserved.
Institutions and laws exist to put an end to the brutality of the most powerful. Still, as history has taught us, there are always cynics who abuse individual power to ignore them and do the opposite of what they shamelessly claim.

Yet it is these institutions that give us hope for continued improvement as they evolve, even with ups and downs. That is why, in recent decades, there has been remarkable progress in the rights and concrete protections of millions of women. And there is still much progress to be made.
Let us not naturalize the discourse of retrograde conservatism. Let us not fall into that trap. Let us condemn the actions of all those who violate the progressive norms that guarantee rights, and those who use their personal actions as an excuse to seek to undermine those rights.
