Nearly 30,000 people are expected to attend the upcoming August 15th for the 424-year pilgrimage of Our Lady of Consolation of Tariba, an event filled with faith and prayer, asking Our Lady to bless and protect the people of Táchira and Venezuela at every moment.
The cities of Cárdenas (Tariba) and Táchira celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Consolation of Tariba, the Protective Mother; here men and women take the time to thank the statue of Our Lady for the graces received, but most importantly for preserving her humanity through faith.
This time “nearly 30,000 parishioners are expected for the central procession on August 15. The number could be higher because there are several religious events on the calendar,” said Cardenas Mayor Marta Gallo.
Our Lady of Consolation has granted countless miracles, and people express their gratitude in various ways, on foot, barefoot, on their knees, in groups or on bicycles, to thank the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God the Father, for His mercy.
Deacon of the event, Jesús Reyes, explained that this time they have prepared several events until August 15. “Everyone’s work is done,” he said. Today, August 10, the Youth Vigil organized by the parish and apostolic community led by Father Pedro Fortul, welcomes young people from all the parishes of the state.
“The vigil consists of three moments. At 6:45 p.m. there will be a cultural program, which will include songs to the Virgin Mary, and around 8:00 p.m. the skylight will take place, with the live recitation of the Holy Rosary. It will be organized by the pastoral care of the cathedrals around the square. Once the rosary is over, Eucharistic adoration will take place, and that will be the end of the day,” Reyes explained.
Tomorrow, Sunday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m., Monsignor Mario Moronta, Bishop of the Diocese of San Cristobal, will celebrate the Eucharist and bless children and pregnant women. At around 2 p.m., the procession of the image of Our Lady will begin through the streets of Tariba, including the parishes of Santa Eduviges and Dos Bosco.
The celebration of the Eucharist begins on August 15, at 1:00 a.m. Then, starting at 3:00 a.m., they will leave from the Cathedral to the Cathedral of San Cristobal with the original image of Our Lady of Consolation; at 5:00 a.m., the Holy Mass will be celebrated, and then the procession will go to Tariba Avenue 1 to celebrate the Pontifical Mass, and after that, the procession will go again to the Cathedral, where Mass will be celebrated every hour.
Safety and attention
Central Day. On Thursday the 15th, security and assistance operations were deployed, including 10 medical care points and 14 supply points.
220 civil defense officials will actively guard the participants.
More than 35 routes (including trunk routes 1, 5, 7 and internal routes) will be active. The main pilgrimage route runs from the Cathedral of San Cristobal to the Chapel of Tariba, with 6 locations and 7 kilometers.
story
The story begins with the first evangelists who arrived in Táchira, the Augustinian Fathers, who began their work more than 400 years ago.
Deacon Jesús Reyes said they brought the icon from Spain. “They settled in a monastery in San Cristóbal and in 1570 they came to Tariba and established a mission center where they taught the catechism to the Indians and administered the sacraments.”
Due to conflicts between the Taribá, Carpaccios and Guasimos Indians, the friars returned to San Cristóbal and the small monument was abandoned.
The Virgin’s first miracle was the restoration of her image at the table. “The image was deteriorating and losing its color, but it restored itself.
The story suggests that a group of boys were playing in the village when they took the board and an aboriginal from Tariba took it from them.”
The image was preserved, and “at night they observed a glow. The whole village noticed the light. At that time the painting was restored and 400 years later it is still intact.
