The Angolan Embassy in France held a special ceremony for the Angolan delegation to the Olympic Games.
According to a press release obtained by OPAIS, the event took place inside the embassy and was attended by athletes, sports directors, diplomats and guests.
The note noted that the ceremony began with the singing of the Angolan national anthem, followed by a speech by the Angolan ambassador to France, Guilhermina Plata.
The document goes on to say that in his speech, the ambassador stressed the importance of the Olympic spirit embodied by all athletes throughout the Games.
“Although we did not win a medal in these Games, our athletes showed extraordinary dedication, perseverance and overcoming difficulties, responding with strong commitment to the challenge issued by the President of the Republic, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, during his farewell speech in Luanda”, stressed the Ambassador.
Speaking on behalf of the Angolan delegation, Chef de Mission Pedro Godinho thanked all members of the delegation for their commitment and especially thanked the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in France for its continued support.
As a token of gratitude, Natália Bernardo, the swimming captain of the handball team, and Nair Almeida, the athlete of Lia Lima, presented flowers to the ambassadors Guilhermina Prata and Ana Maria de Oliveira, as well as to Olga, the Consul General of Angola in France, Paixão Franco.
After the ceremony, the delegation enjoyed lunch and tasted the diverse and rich Angolan cuisine, celebrating but also reminiscing about the flavors of home after more than a month away from Angola.
The event highlighted the spirit of solidarity and fraternity that underpins Angola’s participation in the Olympic Games and strengthened ties between the sporting community and the diplomatic corps in France.
