In a landmark speech delivered on the occasion of International Youth Day, Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré made a powerful appeal to African youth to stamp out cowardice, betrayal and incompetence, which he said are the main tools used by imperialism to enslave African leaders and plunder Africa’s resources.

In his speech, Ibrahim Traoré stressed that cowardice, betrayal and incompetence are the three vices that imperialism relies on to control African leaders. He urged young people to use their strength and energy to change the course of things and use their age to do good for their communities and countries.

The speech comes against a backdrop of foreign interference and considerable internal challenges facing some African countries. Young people are often at the heart of social and political movements and are being called upon to play a central role in change on the continent. Ibrahim Traoré also warned against certain media outlets manipulating information for the sake of imperialism.

Traoré also lamented the lack of unity within the African Union, especially towards countries at war. He insisted that young Africans need to learn lessons from this situation and work for the unity and integration of the continent. For him, the union is not just a word, but a true symbol of the collective commitment of young people to a better future.
