On August 9, Abdisahar Shuri Hussein, deputy administrator for administration and finance in Beledweyne, was killed in an armed robbery in Beledweyne. His death sparked outrage among the local community.
BELEIDEWEYNE (HOL) — Beledweyne Deputy Administrator for Administration and Finance Abdisahar Shuri Hussein was shot dead by armed assailants last night in what appears to be a robbery. The murder is the latest in a series of violent crimes that have plagued the Hiran regional capital in recent months.
The attack took place at around 11pm in Hawo Tako neighbourhood near Kuranta area when Hussain and a companion were on their way home. According to initial reports, the attackers are still at large and fled the scene with Hussain’s mobile phone and pistol.
Security forces responded quickly but efforts to hunt down the suspect were unsuccessful.
The murder comes as Beledweyne grapples with a spate of violent robberies, often carried out by armed groups in military uniforms. The attacks frequently target civilians for their cell phones and other personal valuables, leaving communities in fear and frustration.
The death of Hussein, a respected local figure known for his work in local government, has sparked outrage among young people in Beledweyne, who are demanding immediate justice and the arrest of those responsible.
Authorities have not yet arrested anyone but confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
