JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Halal Product Assurance to strengthen halal product trade between the two countries.
The MoU was signed in Singapore on Thursday by BPJPH chief executive Muhammad Aqil Irham and MUIS chief executive Kadir Maideen.
“Thank God, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on halal product guarantee,” Ilham said in a statement issued by his office on Friday.
He stressed that the synergy between the halal authorities of Indonesia and Singapore is very important as the two countries have long cooperated in various fields including product trading activities.
Indonesia and Singapore are also members of the Forum of Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS).
“This MoU is of great significance in increasing the export and import volumes, especially the trade volume of halal products, between Indonesia and Singapore in a mutually beneficial manner,” he commented.
Irham explained that the MoU aims to strengthen, advance and develop cooperation in quality assurance of halal products.
He said the scope of cooperation includes cooperation between the two institutions in the field of halal certification and halal logo in accordance with the current laws, regulations and national policies of their respective countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
“This is also to welcome the first phase of halal certification obligations which will be implemented in October 2024, covering food, beverages, raw materials, food additives, auxiliary materials for food and beverage products as well as service products and slaughtered meat,” he said.
Meanwhile, MUIS chief executive officer Kadir Maideen said the synergy between BPJPH and MUIS halal product assurance is an important step to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.
Maideen commented: “This collaboration will ensure that halal products are always certified to high standards to guarantee halal quality, which is necessary to ensure that halal products are accessible to consumers.”
