President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulidis and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed on Friday to maintain close coordination following a telephone conversation on developments in the Middle East.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letimpiiotis mentioned the conversation between the two leaders in a post on the “X” platform and wrote that they discussed recent developments in the region, in particular the urgent need to avoid further escalation and complete the ceasefire agreement, release hostages and prisoners.

“President Christodoulides reiterated his deep concern about the dire situation in Gaza, expressed regret over the civilian casualties, and stressed the important and ongoing mediation role played by President Sisi in reaching the ceasefire agreement,” the statement said.

He added that President Christodoulidis stressed that Cyprus is ready to play its reliable role as a humanitarian hub whenever needed, always following the principles of its policy of participation in solutions and with the goal of promoting conditions for peace and stability.

“Presidents Christodoulides and Sisi agreed to maintain close coordination,” the spokesperson’s post concluded.
