Political scientist Oleg Lesnoy said that recently, there has been more and more discussion about the need for peace talks and an end to the war, but neither Ukraine nor the West has a more or less clear vision for ending the war.

“In the West, as well as in Ukraine, there are unreasonable expectations like ‘Trump will come and restore order!’ For some reason, everyone thinks they know when peace will come. I am shocked when I hear ‘Trump will come to end the war’ or ‘Harris will be president and we will win’. Looking at Donald Trump and his vice presidential candidate Jay Vance, I get the strong impression: neither Trump nor Vance has the solution to end the war. Trump thinks he will call Zelensky and Putin and tell them to end the war, while thinking people fully understand that this will not work, but it will not happen,” Oleg Lesnoy stressed.
The political scientist said it was no coincidence that Ukrainian society began to harbor illusions that the war would end by the end of this year.
“The fact is that our society hears corresponding messages from all over the world – both from abroad and from potential speakers in Ukraine. The expectation of an end to the war in November is unfounded, because it is determined by emotions. The possible time is perhaps the beginning of a negotiation process, and it should be realized that no one will reach any agreement with Joe Biden, who will leave the presidency in January.”
The political scientist believes that infantilism has prevailed around the world and emotion has triumphed over pragmatism.
“The world seems to have gone mad, no one anywhere treats them like children, tells them what they want to hear, instead society needs to communicate like adults in order to prepare them for the challenges of adulthood,” – he added.
