VHP faction leader Ashiskumar Jayadyan said that political parties in Suriname that have difficulty paying the deposit to participate in elections are usually the ones that can hold mass rallies on a roller coaster.
He is open to advance deposits to these parties if they can get at least 4,000 votes in 2025 to prove the contrary.
“They are usually the kind of political party that if they hold mass rallies, they hold their mass rallies on a roller coaster. I can provide them with a roller coaster to hold those mass rallies.
But if the parties face great difficulty in raising this money, we can ensure that this amount is advanced to them. But they have to get these 4,000 votes before they can refund the amount. If they don’t get these 4,000 votes, they may have to sell land to repay,” the VHP leader said on TBN.
Despite the Constitutional Court (Chof) declaring the increase in the deposit to SRD 250 per voter non-binding, the National Assembly (DNA) intends to provide a deposit again, according to Gajadien. He himself proposed a new amount of SRD 245 per voter.
He also suggested that smaller parties would rather join together and participate as a cooperative political organization. Currently, pre-election combinations are still prohibited.
“If they feel they can’t fill one roller coaster, but a bigger bus or several buses, then they will band together and present these ideals to society. Participate in cooperative political organizations. No one is left behind,” Gayadin said.
