Xinhua News Agency, Bamako, August 9 (Reporter Chen Cong) The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 9th that Swedish Ambassador to Mali Christina Kunel was declared an unwelcome person by the Malian government and ordered to leave the country within 72 hours.
The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation posted on X (formerly Twitter) that on August 9, 2024, the Swedish ambassador to Bamako was summoned to the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received a notice to leave Malian territory within 72 hours due to “hostile statements” made by the Swedish Minister of International Cooperation and Trade against Mali.
Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Fussell announced on Wednesday that Stockholm will end its “development aid strategy” for Mali.
Fussel’s statement follows Mali’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Ukraine after some Ukrainian officials acknowledged Kiev’s involvement in an attack on Malian armed forces in Tinzawatene, northern Mali.
Niger also announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Ukraine to express its solidarity with Mali.
