Nafissatou Thiam won her third consecutive Olympic heptathlon title at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Belgian is a heavy favorite going into the event, having won gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she completed a historic hat trick.
This Friday in Saint-Denis, she had to finish nine seconds behind her pursuers to win the heptathlon title, to surpass Nafissatou Thiam in the 800m. In the final event, she finished 5’72 behind Katarina Johnson-Thompson and threw a 54.04m javelin at the Stade de France, with the prospect of a new gold medal since the morning.
Thiam, already a champion at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, completed a historic hat trick and despite a poor javelin performance, with her mark of 45.49m, she still finished 6.880 points ahead of two-time world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Britain by 36 lengths.
Thiam etched his name in athletics history with this symbolic victory.
