U.S. Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols issued a strong warning to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Thursday (August 8).
Nichols stressed that “repression is not a sustainable path” for Venezuela’s future, explicitly condemning acts of Chavismo.
The American diplomat recalled in his account ten Since July 28, the Venezuelan government has detained thousands of citizens for exercising their basic rights.
Likewise, he stressed that repression should not be seen as a sign of power. “Such repression is not a sustainable path, nor is it a sign of strength.”
“The voices of Venezuelan voters will not be silenced by repression, censorship or misinformation. The world is watching,” he said.
