(Central Nervous System) renewCayman Airways Flight 481 from Los Angeles landed safely at Owen Roberts International Airport at 4:56 p.m. after an emergency call. According to the airline, the aircraft experienced a flap asymmetry issue during approach and was only able to land with minimum flaps. Although the aircraft was able to land safely with minimum flaps, Captain Joey Jackson declared an emergency out of an abundance of caution, ensuring local emergency services were on standby.
The aircraft circled the island for more than an hour before landing to burn fuel and reduce landing weight. Upon arrival, the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection and any necessary remedial measures.
The flight took off from Los Angeles International Airport 36 minutes late and landed 1 hour and 35 minutes late.
The Cayman Islands Fire Service inspected the aircraft, which landed safely on the runway and all domestic fire stations are currently closed.
