The San Juan National Weather Service (SNM) issued a flood warning for the municipalities of Adjuntas, Lares, Las Marías, Maricao and Yauco, valid until 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
At 4:27 p.m., Doppler radar was monitoring thunderstorms in these areas for heavy rain, which will cause urban and small stream flooding. Rainfall totals of one to two inches have already fallen, with another inch expected, resulting in minor flooding.
SNM warned that water levels in small streams and normally dry areas were rising and heavy rains could become dangerous. It was recommended not to try to cross flooded roads and to find alternative routes.
Citizens must be alert to weather conditions and follow the advice of authorities to avoid accidents.
