Track cyclist Hetty van de Wouw from Kaatsheuvel won the silver medal in the Olympic Keirin final.

Van de Wouw continued the excellent form she showed in the previous rounds in the final round. Nicknamed Hetty Raketty, Van de Wouw was competing with five other drivers for the prize. For Van de Wouw, it was just a little short of the gold medal. She finished second at the Circuit Saint-Quentin in Yvelines.

Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand was slightly faster than Brabant and took the gold medal. Van de Wouw left behind Emma Finucane of Great Britain.

Performance
The rider from Kaatsheuvel, who now lives in Apeldoorn, won the heats in both the semi-final and the quarter-final. Last year she finished fourth in the sprint at the World Championships. In keirin, five or six riders ride behind a motorized pacer. When it disappears from the track after a few laps, the riders sprint for victory within three laps.
