The Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque Affairs Authority checks 80 samples collected daily from inside the Grand Mosque to ensure air quality, surface cleanliness and safety of Zamzam water. As well as food distributed to visitors and tourists to maintain their safety and provide a healthy environment, sample collection and laboratory testing (analytical chemistry, microbiology and physics) are carried out in the Grand Mosque’s epidemiology laboratory. In addition to checking air quality, (50) Zamzam water samples, (20) date and food samples, and (10) surface samples from the mosque are analyzed. Hassan Al-Suwaihri of the Grand Mosque explained that the laboratory relies on three types of analysis to achieve the highest quality standards and monitor the quality of Zamzam water, dates and food distributed inside the Grand Mosque. The cleaning and disinfection efforts, as well as the effectiveness of cleaning materials and disinfectants used to clean surfaces and floors, showed that swabs were collected from carpets, Mashrabiya surfaces, escalators, Quran cabinets and shelves, plastic barriers, doors and other surfaces as well as samples from all Zamzam water sources (Mashrabiya), filling points, water tanks and Zamzam cooling stations.

He said that the microbiological examination was carried out using a device that measures the percentage of contamination (instant scan), and that the laboratory carried out the investigation through its work in addition to the services and religious programs it provides in the Grand Mosque.
