However, one of the 10 injured people transferred to Lubango Central Hospital died due to his injuries, bringing the death toll from seven to eight.

This information was exclusively given today to the OPAÍS newspaper by the head of the Hoque commune, Namuele Caita, who was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the accident, and who revealed that the vehicles in question came from the municipality of Caluequembe and were carrying a wide variety of goods, mainly corn, tubers, among others.

According to traditional authorities, this is the third case to have occurred at the same location this year alone, but it is also the only one with the highest number of victims. Namuele Caita believes that the sharp bends in the road, especially at the entrance to the Hawke River Bridge, are one of the factors that caused the accident.

On the other hand, the head of the Hoque commune believes that the shipment could have caused more than 17 casualties on the way from the city of Cakonda to Lubango.

“This morning at three o’clock I received a call that there had been a traffic accident on the bridge over the Hoque River and when I arrived there the national police from our commune were already there. First we managed to find three bodies and when we insisted we found four more, we called the relocation team and they moved the bodies and INEMA took the injured to the central hospital”, he explained.
