4 FSIN employees killed during hostage-taking in Russian colony

Central Asia (CA) – According to the press office of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, a hostage-taking incident occurred in Prison No. 19 in the Volgograd region of Russia, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“The criminals inflicted varying degrees of stab wounds on four employees, three of whom died. Four other resisters were taken to hospital, one of whom died there,” the department’s press department said.
Half an hour after the news broke, the Federal Bureau of Prisons issued a clarification that three employees were killed and one of the injured was declared dead but survived. Soon after, the department again reported that he was dead.
“Unfortunately, the employee who was taken hostage and hospitalized died,” the press office clarified to RIA Novosti.
Taking into account the latest clarifications of the Federal Penitentiary Service, four employees of the institution became victims of the inmates of IK No.19, and four others were hospitalized with severe and moderate injuries. According to the service, four more inmates were injured.
On the afternoon of August 23, several prison staff were taken hostage in prison No. 19 in the city of Surovikino, Volgograd Region. The incident took place during a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee. According to preliminary information, the attackers claimed to be members of the Islamic State. The security forces attacked the colony that evening, as a result of the operation, four intruders were eliminated. The Investigative Committee opened a case under Art. 206 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (hostage-taking) and Part 3 of Art. 321 of the Criminal Code (disruption of the activities of the colony).
