Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nwosu, has warned people suffering from poverty and high cost of living against holding planned protests.

The former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Governor, while speaking with journalists in Abuja, called on the youths to enthusiastically participate in campaigns against the policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration and give peace a chance.

He expressed concern that the planned protests could be hijacked by criminals and anti-democratic forces in the country.

He said: “It is true that our dear country is going through tough times but we cannot give up like those who have no hope. In a democracy, citizens do have the right to protest but in Nigeria, where we have 250 nationalities, most protests do not end well.

“For example, the EndSars protest, a very peaceful protest was hijacked by people with ill intentions towards the country. In the end, billions of naira worth of property and many lives were lost.

“Yes, the policies and reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be a little harsh now, but there is light at the end of every tunnel. He has only been in office for a year. Why don’t we give him time to correct all the anomalies that we see in this country, the anomalies of yesterday?

“Let us give him time to correct these mistakes so that we can have a country filled with our shared hopes and aspirations. There is no place like home. Nigeria is our country. Let us have a country where you and I will live and say this is our country.”
