Jakarta(ANTARA) –
The Indonesian House of Representatives Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) announced that representatives from 22 countries will attend the upcoming Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF).
“This will be the first inter-parliamentary forum between Indonesia and African countries since the Asian-African Conference in 1955 and the Non-Aligned Movement Conference in 1961,” BKSAP Chairman Fadli Zon said in a statement on Friday.
Representatives from 22 countries will include nine parliamentary presidents, who will lead their respective delegations to the IAPF.
The forum, themed “Building Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Development Partnership,” will be held in Bali from September 1 to 3 as part of the Indonesia-Africa Forum.
Zong said the forum will mark an important achievement for Indonesia’s foreign policy, especially in cooperation with the Global South.
“The rise of the global South should be strengthened through cooperation mechanisms, including inter-parliamentary cooperation between Indonesia and Africa,” he said.
Zohn said the first IAPF with this theme will not only serve as a stepping stone to strengthen cooperation between Indonesian and African parliamentarians, but is also expected to produce new commitments on a comprehensive plan to encourage long-term development cooperation between the two sides.
“At the same time, it will reaffirm Indonesia’s shared commitment to strengthening economic, political and social ties with African countries,” he added.
He pointed out that Indonesia and Africa have huge economic potential, and if both sides work together to tap this potential, they can achieve equitable development for their people.
Potential areas of cooperation between the two sides include economy, health, agriculture, energy, communications and technology.
