The detention order for the two suspects, aged 19 and 23, was extended for another five days in connection with the brutal murders of Andreas Kouzoupis and his 38-year-old Slovak friend David Chmelar, whose charred bodies were found on July 31 in Listovounos.
The two were brought to the Limassol District Court in the morning and were ordered to remain in custody again until the investigation is completed. As mentioned in court, among other things, the police have a written testimony from a person who happened to meet the suspect on a certain date, and the 19-year-old man allegedly reported that he was threatened by Kouzoupis, then the 23-year-old. The 7-year-old suspect intervened, saying that he would help him and used the word “gun” and the phrase “you don’t know me well”.
In addition, according to another written testimony in the possession of the investigators, the 19-year-old suspect allegedly confided in someone that Kouzopis threatened him, forced him to buy the speaker and said he was going to kill him. On the night of the crime, during a telephone conversation with the suspect, he allegedly told him that he had killed the first victim and that the second suspect was with him and that he would throw him off a place in the Listovonos area. During a meeting with the first suspect some time later, the 19-year-old suspect allegedly confirmed to him that the same suspect and the second suspect were involved in the crime.
The court extended the detention order for another five days to give investigators time to complete their investigation and file a case.
As suspects, they continued to admit their involvement in the brutal double murder but insisted on blaming each other for who killed the victims.
The two suspects are being investigated for conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, premeditated murder, arson, and illegal possession, transportation and use of firearms and explosives.
