At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022, Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) officers turned over seventy-eight (78) Haitian nationals to New Providence law enforcement. The group consisted of sixty-one (61) males, ten (10) females, and seven (7) minors.
The group of migrants were found on a sailboat and intercepted by the British Navy SEALs HMS Madeira off South Beach, New Providence.
Additionally, RBDF officers turned over sixty-two (62) Haitian nationals to New Providence law enforcement at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022. The group consisted of thirty-eight (38) males, eight (8) females, and sixteen (16) minors.
The group of migrants was spotted on a sailboat in waters near Nuevitas Rock, west of Long Island, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. They were intercepted by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) patrol boat “Reliance” and handed over to RBDF officers aboard HMBS Lawrence Major on Thursday. The group was then handed over to immigration officials on Saturday.
This number brings the total number of migrants removed from The Bahamas in less than two weeks to three hundred and eighty-eight (388).
