Mexico City (apro) – An 11-year-old boy playing football died on Sunday, August 18, after being stabbed 10 times by a man wearing a mask. The murder took place in Spain.
According to the Castilla-La Mancha government delegation, the incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. while Mateo was playing with two other minors at the Angeltadio sports facility, located on a hill on the outskirts of the town, near a residential area.
At that moment, a young man with his face covered entered the facility, approached the group of minors and attacked Mateo. The report showed that the victim had 10 stab wounds.
“The boy was playing in a field with his best friend and another boy when the killer entered the facility. It appears that he entered through a hole in the back fence. The two friends managed to escape, but Mateo did not. “It happened to him, as it happened to anyone who was there,” declared Axel Sánchez-Vicente, cousin of Mateo’s mother, Lua Sánchez.
After realizing what was happening, Mateo’s uncle, Alvaro Martin, ran from the paddle tennis court where he was playing to where the boy was. The man was unable to save his nephew’s life.
After the stabbing, the perpetrators fled the scene in a car. The National Guard deployed the so-called “Cage Operation”, which consisted of controlling the roads and paths around the scene of the incident in an attempt to intercept the perpetrators of the death of a minor. Agents from the Judicial Police Unit of the Armed Institute and the Information Group of the Toledo Command, as well as a police helicopter, participated in the installation.
The victim’s family also reported that the masked man who killed Mateo tried to attack a group of young people at a sports field, but they managed to escape, so the attacker went to where the minors were and inflicted ten stab wounds.
Finally, a day later, according to El País, members of the Civil Guard arrested a 20-year-old Spanish man believed to be Mateo’s killer. Although the motive for the attack has not been officially announced, Spanish media reported that the killer suffered from a mental disorder, which may have motivated the homicide.
The alleged perpetrator is not a resident of the town, but his grandmother and father do have a house in the town. According to EFE, the arrested man would change clothes at her house, but it is not clear whether it was before or after the crime. On the other hand, his father’s house is where he was detained.
The Mocejón City Council declared three days of official mourning for Mateo’s murder. At 12:00 noon, the Toledo Provincial Council, chaired by the mayor of Mocejón, observed a minute of silence at its headquarters in the regional capital in memory of the minor, who was under 11 years old.
