100 women transferred from Tamara prison to El Poso

Tegucigalpa– A total of 100 inmates from the Women’s Prison Center (PNFAS) in Tamara, Francisco Morazán department, were transferred to the maximum-security prison, El Pozo, in Ilama, Santa Barbara.

Military Police Commander (PMOP), Ramiro Munoz He said the women being transferred were the ones causing the biggest problems within the prison.

The director of the National Penitentiary Institute (INP) also said the women who were transferred belonged to 18 gangs.

“Just as there are women in La Torba, MS-13, we will move to El Pozo and create space for them,” she said.

Asked about a statement by the National Human Rights Commissioner (Conadeh), which called for an investigation into the deaths of people deprived of their liberty, Muñoz said anyone who acted inappropriately had been referred to the Public Ministry.

“We are bringing the perpetrators of the crime to the attention of MPs, so all the facts have been provided to the authorities,” he said.

Regarding the death of Eric Macias, he said that what happened has been explained and that with the recent record transfers and those taking place today, it will be possible to prevent such incidents from happening again.
