The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry will increase farm income under the Food Security Grant to enhance the contribution of companies to GDP from renewable resources. In the 13th Plan, Rs 10.23 trillion was allocated to the department.
The budget constitutes 10% of the total budget for 2023. Agriculture and rural development Animal husbandry is expected to contribute Rs 36.5 billion to the GDP and is expected to increase by Rs 58.69 trillion during the budget period.
The plan will prioritize the development of modern agricultural machinery and the expansion of commercial agriculture, and the company is expected to achieve 8.3% growth in the 13th quarter.
The projects include Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation, Agricultural Machinery Corporation, Bhutan Food Corporation and Bhutan Food Corporation. The project will be implemented through the Youth Private Partnership Program.
The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for the development and production of commercial products, fish, flowers and quinoa, and seven priority crops including spinach, moong dal and rice will have 100% of their trading delayed.
The ministry also exports expensive livestock products such as rainbow trout and starchy cabbage, hair, putka, kamba honey, yagus and royal jelly.
In a previous interview, Yongten Phuntsok, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, said the ministry will provide a price guarantee mechanism and production funding support for agricultural and animal husbandry enterprises, and the project will help develop agriculture and animal husbandry by building market roads.
He said the ministry would continue to provide special discounts and technical assistance for small loans to support agricultural self-use.
The ministry will also allocate Rs 10 lakh crore in 2024-24 to support investments in irrigation and drinking water supply, which will have the potential to increase agricultural productivity.
In the 13th Five-Year Plan alone, 24 new irrigation and drinking water projects are planned to be implemented in the region.
The budget summary includes commercial and priority self-consumption agriculture and animal husbandry activities such as rice and wheat, maize, poultry, beef and fruits, leaving Rs 3 billion for the exchequer.

The goal is to increase the agricultural GDP by US$1 billion by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, create 125,160 jobs, and employ 43.5% of the total population.
The government will continue to plant millions of fruit trees in the 2024-25 financial year, increasing production of high-value fruit from 37,997 tonnes to 104,024 tonnes.
The ministry has also established four agro-food hubs in Paro, Gsarpang and Monggar under the 13th Plan and plans to establish one in Wangdue.
The government will continue with the construction of irrigation canals and barbed wire to ensure water self-sufficiency.
The annual production target for the past five years was 54,040 tons, an annual increase of 45,087 tons.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s Food and Nutrition Security Policy 2023, it is expected that food will be provided to 837,288 people by 2034.
