As the June 28 deadline to obtain national and non-national ID cards draws closer, some senior citizens across the country have pleaded with the director of the National Civil Registration Agency (NCRA) to consider extending the deadline to obtain these ID cards.
The public will recall that in March 2022, Parliament enacted legislation linking the right to access services (including access to business registration, school admission, land and property registration, driverโs license/vehicle registration, NASSIT pension payment, access to passports, work/residence permits, bank account operations, SIM card registration, etc.) to an identity card bearing the unique National Identification Number (NIN) for all citizens and non-citizens of Sierra Leone.
Since His Excellency the President began production of the Multi-Purpose Identity Card in January 2023, the demand for the ID card has continued to grow exponentially due to the access to these services and the convenient and reliable identification of Sierra Leonean citizens and foreign residents.
As the public voice grows louder, the publicโs interest is paramount to the administration of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and the Director-General of the NCA, Mr. Mohammed Mubashir Massagui, has been pushing his agenda with dedication and commitment, the public continues to plead with the leadership of the NCA to meet their request on behalf of the people of the country and extend the deadline from June 28 to at least the end of this year.
The workaholic NCRA director general is yet to respond to the request addressed to him by some of the countryโs senior citizens.
