The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, bids farewell to the outgoing EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller, during a ceremony at the Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown, Friday, August 23, 2024. The event also introduced Mr. Charlie Suren, who has been appointed as the new EU Regional Security Adviser for Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Ambassador Mueller thanked IGP Seru for his unwavering commitment to maintaining stability in Sierra Leone since his arrival, adding that he has always been supportive and available. He praised the peaceful nature of the country and its extraordinary religious tolerance. “I will miss Sierra Leone and its people deeply,” he said, urging Seru to extend the same support to his successor.
The new EU Regional Security Adviser, Mr. Charlie Suren, has pledged his commitment to continue the cooperation between the EU and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to maintain peace, security and order in the country.
In response, the Inspector General of Police, Faya Theru, acknowledged the EUโs significant contribution to the Sierra Leone Police Force, especially its support to INTERPOL and the West African Police Information System (WAPIS). He attributed the success of social order and rule of law in Sierra Leone to the cooperation and support of partners such as the Government and the EU. Bidding farewell to Ambassador Mueller, Mr Theru said: โLeaders may change, but the EU does not. We will miss you, but please remember Sierra Leone.โ
The climax of the meeting was the greetings, friendly exchanges and group photos between the two sides.
