As part of the young generation of the SLPP, Honorable Alhaji Musa Tarawally worked with the late SB Marah, Teacher Lagao, Alhaji Musa Tarasid Tarawally, Paul Dumba, Dr. Albert Joe Demby, Chief Hinga Norman, Elizabeth Lavalie, Dr. Prince Harding, Momodu Koroma, Dr. Alpha Wurie, Honorable Foday Yumkella, Abass Collier, Dr. Sama Banya, Dixon Roger, Abdulai Caulker, Sahr Nyama, Sitta Turay, Malam Janneh and others to bring the late Ahmad Tejan Kabbah to power in 1996.
The regional youth generation leader, His Excellency Alhaji Musa Tarawally, who, along with the above mentioned, went into exile with the late President Kabbah, made great efforts in 1998 to restore the SLPP government to power.
Alhaji Musa Tarawally, a young generation leader and member of the Sri Lanka People’s Party’s Strategic Planning Committee, worked with Dr. Prince Harding and others to win more than 70% of the votes for the Sri Lanka People’s Party in the 2002 general election.
The Moyamba District SLPP Chairman and MP, Alhaji Musa Tarawally, worked together with other district executive members to ensure that more SLPP were given political appointments and as a Member of Parliament, through the Parliamentary Caucus, bravely promised the late President Kabbah to increase the salaries of MPs and improve their conditions of service, including issuing diplomatic passports to MPs.
Alhaji Musa Tarawally, SLPP Chairman, MP and Strategic Planning Committee Member for Moyamba District, formed a SLPP Task Force, comprising Ministers, MPs, heads of state-run institutions and party executive members, to promote and assess the possibility of the late Vice President Solomon Berewa winning the 2007 SLPP presidential election. Only Dr. Harding refused to join. As the Chairman of the powerful SLPP Task Force, MP and SLPP Chairman for Moyamba District, Alhaji Musa Tarawally took the late Vice President Solomon Berewa to every chiefdom in Sierra Leone. Upon realizing that the late Vice President Solomon Berewa would not win the SLPP election, he bravely and directly told President Kabbah and Vice President Berewa this fact despite the support of the majority of the executive members and task force members. He reported his findings to the late Vice President Berewa, the most powerful and feared Vice President in the history of Sierra Leone, in the presence of the Honorable Alpha Timbo and others.
The Member of Parliament and Chairman of the SLPP in Moyamba District, His Excellency Alhaji Musa Tarawally, met with Retired Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio at his residence in Freetown to ask him about his expectations from the SLPP leadership and prophesied to him that he is the best candidate to win the SLPP elections. With the consent of His Excellency Bio, he recruited Dr. Prince Harding, Alhaji Brima Koroma, Chief Caulker and 70% of the South East Chiefs, the late Hon. MB Daramy, Small Bo Chief Ismeal Koroma, Chief Musa Junisa, Makeni Chairman Abu Abu Abdulia, Abu Bakar Sapae Foray Musa, Alhaji Noah Mansaray, MIK Bayoh, John BS Tucker, Albert Kapu, the late Kenema Chief Arthur Koroma and most of the regional executive members of the SLPP among others. The regional chairman and councillor, Alhaji Musa Tarawally, led HE Bioโ€™s campaign till the 2005 general election when it was rigged in favour of late Vice President Berewa. The SLPP went against his advice and some people saw him as a target of persecution.
At that time, Alhaji Musa Tarawally, who was the regional chairman and councillor, became the target of political persecution. He was removed from his position as regional chairman and stripped of his councillor symbol in protest of his visionary proposals to the SLPP against the leadership of the late Vice President Berewa.
Alhaji Musa Tarawally served as a minister in the EBK government but continued to work for the interests of the SLPP, protecting pro-SLPP chiefs and party members who were taken to court by lawyer Charles Margai for their role in the 2007 election campaign, including providing counsel for former Kamajors members who he claimed attacked them in Kailahun, disbanding the PMDC to protect SLPP strongholds, paying lawyers to secure early release of former CDF fighters imprisoned in ICC prisons, and providing legal fees for several SLPP members including the Gavi case against the late Bernald Dugba and others. He provided funding for SLPP regional councils and development for all the South East regions including returning Njala University to Mokonde (Minister Turad Senesie can attest to this), the road from Moyamba Junction to Moyamba (EBK often brings Chiefs to Moyamba to work on the Moyamba Junction to Moyamba road project).
Honorable Alhaji Musa Tarawally suffered persecution from the Sri Lanka Peopleโ€™s Party (SLPP) in 2007 and from the APC in his efforts to bring the SLPP back to power.
He formed a coalition of political parties, contested under the leadership of the CDP, and led a campaign against the ruling APC, gaining additional support and joining the SLPP in the 2018 runoff election, successfully returning his ancestral SLPP party to power.
Honorable Alhaji Musa Taravalli is an experienced, battle-tested, visionary and legendary grassroots leader who played a major role in the success of the 2023 campaign by engaging with communities and grassroots leaders across the country at his own expense.
To sum up: 2028 is the era of the experienced, successful and battle-tested, legendary and visionary grassroots leader, the Honourable Alhaji Musa Tarawally
