We are lonely.
On Thursday, Judge Aiah Simeon Alieu sentenced Sinneh Suma to 34 years in prison at the Maximum Correctional Centre in Freetown after finding him guilty of sexual assault and incest.
Sinneh Suma, 30, is expected to receive 20 years in prison on one count of sexual assault and 14 years on the incest charge.
The victim, now 13 years old and a student at a primary school in the town of Bray in the rural western region, was sexually assaulted by her biological father, Sinneh Suma, sometime between January 1 and September 14, 2023.
The 13-year-old victimโs mother reported the incident to the Sierra Leone Police Family Support Unit (FSU) in Tombo.
According to the victimโs mother (Ms. Karbo), she knew the then accused to be her husband and the victimโs father and recalled that on the said date she went to the bush with her daughter (the victim) to collect firewood and on the way home the victim told her that she was sexually assaulted by her father.
Meanwhile, Suad Kamara, a doctor at Rainbow Medical Center, also recalled examining the victim on September 15, 2023, and wrote a report on the findings.
Detective Constable (DPC) 13999 Kamara attached to FSU, Tombo police station recalled investigating the matter along with DPC 13430 Kargbo and others.
