The Process

The first thing you want to be sure of getting started is…being sure this is what you want to do! I say this because in 1986 I had no idea where I was going in this business! I was 16 then, today I can tell you stories of hard times, and high times when money was not an issue.

I have a good voice now what? As I tell thousands of people a year it’s not what you say, but how you say it. How true that is! Understanding it’s not enough to just have proper diction or having pipes of steel, what you need is an actor’s heart…finding the emotional elements needed to communicate the message.

Broadcast United Studios is not just another studio, we care about the success of our people, that’s why we focus on the fundamentals of the trade. Getting started with us requires an audition to assess your strengths and weaknesses! After we have evaluated this information we will formulate a plan that will give you practical direction in planning your career goals. This evaluation is on the house always! You heard right, free to find out if this is right for you.

Voiceovers are the second highest paid medium next to acting! How much can you make? I can tell you experience can hold more weight, however that’s not always the case. Example, Kellie Bryant came to us new, never tried voicing a commercial until we directed her. Kellie made 1,500 her first spot! That’s most likely not going to happen to you.

What you can expect out the door. In Tampa I wouldn’t personally voice a commercial for less then $175.00 that’s in this market…breaking that down not airing outside the Tampa Bay listening area.

Agency’s NOT radio stations…You need representation to make it in the world of voiceovers. An agent will market your voice to advertising agencies across the country on your behalf, not for free, but for a fee! This means you don’t have to pound the pavement!!! How much? 10-20%, that’s how they make money from you. The radio stations already have voice talent, sometimes you can get lucky and a PD or “Program Director” likes you and you get an occasional gig on the radio. Trust me; the money is made on the agency level. You can make from $175.00 in Tampa to $1,500 in Orlando for a commercial, it depends on the client and where the radio campaign is airing. Local or National? National you should always make more.

A career not a job!

If your tired of working a JOB and want a lucrative way to make money and have some fun in some of the most high-tech studios in the country, Voiceovers may be in your future. There is nothing more rewarding for me when a project worked and I was the talent making it happen. There is more then just hearing yourself on the radio.
